Bringing the exhibition Medicated at Tacit Contemporary Art to a close, and a first for Tacit Contemporary Art, is the special screening of the short documentary film Medicated - the Film at Palace Westgarth.
An inspirational story of the creative concept and creativity in the face of adversity, the cameras follow Tim as he is forced to come to terms with his illness and his altered reality.
A demanding role as a leading teacher in a Melbourne school is replaced by an intensive schedule of hospitalisation of 4-5 days every 3 weeks along with regular out-patient visits and a debilitating drug regime. Added to which there is also the change to the personal routine of this family man – the sickness itself, the sleepless nights, the lonely early morning walks in almost deserted streets.
We follow Tim on his personal journey – in his studio, in hospital, in his everyday supporting his 2 daughters through university and Year 11 High School, at the gallery. Interviews will feature the artist alongside senior medical staff at Peter Mac, colleagues, artists, family and friends.
Yet Medicated is not simply the story of one man’s determination to be creative in spite of the serious diagnosis, the physical reaction to the violent treatment and its emotional impact. Medicated is also an inspiration and proof that serious illness need not be a limit to innovation and creativity. It is the creative process that is the focus of the documentary.
