Above and Beyond
6 - 24 April 2016
Opening Wednesday 6 April, 6.30-8pm
In these new works I have continued to explore the theme of contrasting enclosing frames with infinite space and iconic images.
The use of expressionist paint, contrasting warm and cool colours and ambivalent points of view reflects our excessively visual and frantic world. When there is no time to stop and look we label and compartmentalise our vision, before moving on quickly.
My intention, it seems, is to show these contradictory elements pushing and pulling our perceptions, while at the same time aiming for a single harmonious vision. Perhaps even a sense of pictorial mystery.
The concept of ‘Drala’ in Buddhist teaching refers to being above and beyond one’s challenges, in order to see clearly the singularity of our sensory world.
Vale Lazar Krum, 1948 - 2016. You will be deeply missed.
