Flinders Fragments 2
6 - 24 April 2016
Opening Wednesday 6 April, 6.30-8pm
My current work is sited in several interstitial zones: the beach and, specifically, the beaches that form the coastline around the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Flinders, where I live and work, is located on the southern tip of the Mornington Peninsula between the relatively calm waters of Westernport Bay and the crashing surf and resultant coastline of Bass Strait.
I developed the series entitled Flinders Fragments in 1981 when living full time here in Flinders. I have recently returned to the concepts embedded in the series: line and drawing, scale, layers, horizons and interchangeable recurring patterns - order in apparent chaos. Having returned to live full-time at Flinders, I am revisiting and re-seeding, teasing out those concepts.
The materials I use are papers of varying texture and density onto which I make marks either drawn, scratched or stitched, developing collages.
