Peter Mac Project Space
27 April - 15 May 2016
Opening Wednesday 27 April, 6.30-8pm
A disco ball, an odd sock, a bottle cap. Interior View explores the anonymous narratives held in the ephemera of share-house living. This environment is a repository of the familiar, the fleeting, the private, and the unknowable: a receptacle of leftovers from everyday actions. Remnants of the past circulate amongst objects of the present, signifying the hopes, losses and identities of those connected with them.
Carolyn Hawkins is a print-based artist living and working in Melbourne. Her practice engages with the print-object, collaged form, drawing and photographic processes to visually explore the way in which memories are ‘given shape’ in the act of recollection. Carolyn often draws upon personal items from her past and present to explore the relationship between private memory and the everyday.
Carolyn was awarded the 2014 McClelland Gallery Mary and Lou Senini Student Art Award and, in 2015, was the recipient of the Australia Print Workshop Collie Print Trust Scholarship for Emerging Victorian Printmakers.
