The Landscape Within
3 - 21 August 2016
Opening Wednesday 3 August, 6.30-8pm
"My paintings are intended to be challenging, yet accessible to a wide audience. The settings may be anywhere yet nowhere and are often backdrops to some submerged psychological drama. I explore my own joys, fears and anxieties about the contemporary world and project them onto the canvas.
Direct observation can lead to inward meditation which is achieved by capturing a particular light or depiction of a bleak horizon. In many of these works there is a lonely contemplation of an unspecified mystery.
I explore the dynamic between beauty and loneliness, between isolation and serenity. I paint in the studio and being geographically removed from the scenes I paint allows me to impose my own deliberations and imagination into the scene.
