My printmaking is about colour, texture and my inner response to the beauty of living. My starting points have strong references to reality and have become more pared back as I play with composition elements and refine my intended meaning. I love the process that starts with an initial drawing and the changes that occur with every successive pass through the press.
For the last three years, I have been interested in drawing a group of bottles which I collected 20 years ago. I enjoy changing the arrangement of the composition and elongating the shapes of the bottles, creating different moods and atmospheres. This is reflected in the surface texture and colour of the prints, which have been made using a collagraph intaglio plate, inked circuit boards and monoprint techniques.
My knowledge of art history influences my prints as does the aesthetics of abstract art. My prints often have musical references and this series of prints - Adagio in Blue references subtle textural surfaces and soft colours. The quietude and reflective moments of being still. The irregularity of the bottle shapes encompasses the imperfectness of being human.
