Dreams in Charcoal
5 - 16 October 2016
Opening Wednesday 5 October, 6.30-8pm
Having dabbled in various media thoughout his career, Sudhakar feels he has reached his fulfilment through working with charcoal
and simple black and white. This love began in the 199os as his confidence of expressing a range of emotions and behaviours to
tell stories using only shades of grey grew.
Sudhakar’s ideas come from a variety of social, political and cultural issues experienced in everyday life, professional exposure in
his lifelong passion researching tribal and child art along with his travels within India and overseas.
Reflection on these experiences and stimuli result in (usually) the placement of figures and props in a multidimensional landscape.
His materials vary to suit the subjects or stories but his methodology is consistent, grouping works in unifying themes. For Dreams
in Charcoal, Sudhakar focuses on an almost theatrical display of dreamy landscapes, redolent of huge theatrical or operatic stage
sets, depiciting an interplay of light and shadow with surreal props and Escherian steps.
