Opening Wednesday 18 May, 6.30-8pm
This is an investigation into tailoring and breaking apart its structure to find the essence of sewn threads.
The familiar form of the tailored jacket projects subtle messages of strength and power: it simultaneously hides the body whilst hinting at its idealised shape underneath. In reducing the tailoring to find the essence of fabricated and manipulated lines and forms, I have been searching for the underlying fibres and stitches that hold the garment together, like the sinews of muscles hold the structured bones and the beauty of the outward skin together for the body itself.
In essence, it becomes all about the sewn, what is ‘in’ the ‘sew’; it becomes about the stitches themselves - and the results are whimsical and delicate.
