2 - 13 March 2016
Opening Wednesday 2 March, 6.30-8pm
The latest exhibition by Andrea Sinclair, entitled Swim, invites the viewer to submerge themselves in the retelling of summers past through her continuing use of poetic imagery.
These works evoke our own familial images of the past with the intriguingly handled colours of summer. The anonymous subjects bring forth memories of association in us and become part of our own stories, allowing us to be momentarily transported to a dream-like place.
Andrea has forged a distinctive personal style in both portraiture and contemporary interpretations of a nostalgic past. She has been a Finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2014, a Semi-Finalist in 2015 and a Finalist three times in the Nillumbik Prize. Working from collected images, sometimes captured from photographs or archival film, Andrea captures glimpses of occasions or people that are both new and eerily familiar to the viewer.
Her work is held in private collections in Australia and North America.
