Renowned artist Louise Foletta returns to Tacit Contemporary Art with her latest exhibition, Into the Centre (Lake Eyre and Beyond).

For the last decade, Louise has been visiting Ned's Corner Station (Victoria) and Lake Eyre (South Australia), recording the stunning landscapes in her work.

A former sheep and cattle station since the mid-1800s, Ned’s Corner, 80 kilometres west of Mildura, was purchased by the Trust for Nature in 2002. With its stark and confronting landscape and extensive Murray River frontage and its close proximity to the Murray Darling Basin, it leaves a deep impression on those who visit its remote location.

Lake Eyre (Kati Thanda in the local Arabana language) is the lowest point in Australia at 15 metres below sea level. When full, it is the largest lake in the country and the 18th largest in the world. For many years, drought resulted in no or little water in the lake, but successive flooding between 2009 and 2012 saw water return, to varying levels, to the vast dry lake bed.

But it's as the waters recede and the changes made to the landscape that most interests Louise. Flying over the stunning land forms, she captures rare glimpses of water eroded moments and dramatic changes to the land featured in her work of only 10 years previously.

Incorporating earlier work from Ned’s Corner and Lake Eyre to work completed only days before the opening of the exhibition,
Into the Centre (Lake Eyre and Beyond) highlights the ever-evolving landscape and the impact of nature on the world around us. But it also highlights Louise Foletta as an ever evolving artist, given as we are the opportunity to compare work produced 10 years ago to that of today and the liberating effect of her more recent post-Victorian Bushfires works.
