T J Bateson
12 - 30 June 2013
Opening Wednesday 12 June, 6.30-8pm
Temporal is an exhibition consisting of large works from recent exhibitions by T J Bateson. Rising to the challenge of the new spaces of gallery five, Tim has curated works from Temporality and Pixel to provide a unique, never before seen visual feast of large pieces of work of art on canvas and aluminium.
The five acclaimed aluminium pieces fromTemporality, creating a uniformed power of continuity, are shown side by side with canvases from the earlier Pixel and newly compiled tiled works on aluminium.
Yet again, the exhibition highlights Tim’s continued exploration and development of the connections and inspirations of previous work. Both Pixel and Temporality highlight his subtle shifts of hue in a limited palette, resulting in a layering of abstract surfaces. He explores the interplay of low contrasts and how the changes in spatial relationships shift and change due to shallow spaces and the broken moment of pattern.
As Kerrilee Ninnis stated in her essay for the Temporality exhibition, the works are “a mapping of thoughts, a visualisation of his cognition, reacting to the paint itself rather than being inspired by external natural forms.”
