Most of my painting career has focussed on the domestic and suburban living. However, over recent times the work has slowly included aspects of the exterior, having morphed the genre in some paintings with the emphasis on the landscape. In retrospect, I have realised that the spatial and textural elements in my interiors were generated from a subconscious link to the place of my childhood in Neerim East, Victoria.

Growing up on a dairy farm was an extraordinary way of life. Often isolating and difficult with what felt like never-ending chores. The winding steep hills made rounding up the cows, harvesting hay and driving tractors exhausting and occasionally treacherous. Milking the cows after school in the cold winter winds that swept over us from the Baw Baw Ranges was an uncomfortable challenge. It was inevitable when leaving and heading to art school in Melbourne that painting landscape was the last thing I was interested in exploring.

Now that many years have passed and my parents will soon be leaving the farm, I feel a sense of urgency to reconnect and capture memories before the opportunity is gone forever.
