Day By Day
14 October - 1 November 2015
Opening Wednesday 14 October, 6.30-8pm
For over ten years I’ve returned to a particular place to paint. It’s beside a stretch of road in the Yarra Valley, about 25 kilometres from home. Here the suburbs meet the country and native bushland coexists alongside ploughed fields and grazing cattle.
The ever changing light and weather patterns along with seasonal changes mean that I never grow tired of this rural landscape. Fields are ploughed, strawberries are planted, fruit trees bloom and the ever present natural bush provides a contrast.
Using fluid oil paint, I work en plein air very quickly. Insects crawl across my canvas and sometimes the wind blows my easel over as I paint.
My paintings are my way of communicating to the viewer the “essence of place” as I experience it. They form a visual diary and a memory trigger. Each one transports me back to that moment of their creation.
