David Rossiter - 'The Endless Dance'

“A total of 7 months in India since 2011 has given me the opportunity to focus on my art, develop fresh ideas and explore an amazing country.

Indian art is predominantly figurative and loaded with visual information and it became a quest to seek out what else of importance was out there that was based on a more minimalist doctrine.

This exhibition evolved from a 2015 artist’s residency in Delhi and presents my interpretation of very old Tantra art, where simple shapes symbolise more complex ideologies concerning important deities, the cycle of life and similar subjects. The circular bases are a medium that I have been using in recent years – they have no direct connection to the surface images but are still a relevant element in this work that oscillates between representation and semi-abstraction.”
