The works in this exhibition are gatherings of people in an unidentifiable landscape. They sit/stand and interact by sharing the space – but mostly they inhabit it in their own world. As Bain-King paints, he looks to capture their take on this place/their universe, fascinated as he is by people and the way we all sit in our own subjectivity. But he is also fascinated by the way we all carry our burdens, hopes and sensitivities. And this sits like body memory within us all.

Bain-King's intention is to not work in a particular style – although he does. Instead, he draws most satisfaction from employing processes that uncover hidden understandings and ideas.

To do this, the artist paints as if he's in a conversation with the canvas. It is not something he controls, instead he enters in to it. And hopefully, it takes him and the viewer, on a journey – to places unrecognised or forgotten. The artwork sits in its own world with its own climate and reality.

For Bain-King, the composition of a painting is particularly important as it communicates its own logic and reality. The composition captures the rhythm and spaces we inhabit - and holds all the distractions and aspirations we share. He looks to capture a recognition that although being human is quite wonderful – it is also challenging and difficult. Bain-King's hope is that his art speaks to this truth and offers a sense of comfort in the knowledge we are not alone as we journey through life.
