May Rose Bateson - 'Stuff'

This work highlights the sentimental value of stuff that others might turn a blind eye. These are simple things, unusual things and everyday things. They are viewed each in turn, allowing the eye to roam across the surfaces and trace the light.

The objects in Bateson’s first solo exhibition hold an emotional and personal resonance, linking to family memories of shared experience, creating an aesthetic for quirky vintage objects that has evolved or, perhaps, been inherited. But at the end of the day, it’s just ‘stuff’.
